FAMILY DAYS

“The family day was very informative. We got so much from meeting the other families and hopefully we helped some of the new families.”
(Parent who attended the Family Day 2008)

Our annual family days welcome children and adults with A-T, their relatives, friends and any professionals who have an interest in their care.

These popular days provide a chance for families to come together for mutual support and to gather information – from our invited speakers and from each other.

The programme for the day typically includes a variety of short presentations on topics such as:
  • Research into A-T
  • Disability rights
  • Specialist IT equipment
  • Open forum: a chance to put questions to doctors and therapists

Our speakers include people with A-T, parents, clinicians, therapists and researchers.

There are also plenty of breaks to give families a chance to meet and chat with each other over refreshments and lunch.

For children, there is an ‘alternative agenda’ which includes entertainment, crafts, and an afternoon outing under the watchful eyes of trained helpers. Separate activities – such as alternative therapies and a pub lunch - are offered for young adults with A-T who wish to renew old acquaintances or establish new friendships.

Over the past few years, the annual Family Day has taken place in Nottingham, beginning with an informal dinner on the evening before. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and adults with A-T to meet in a relaxed atmosphere prior to the meeting and is especially beneficial to families who have recently received a diagnosis of A-T.

If you would like to attend the next Family Day, please contact the A-T Society
