Helen Hart : A-T Counsellor
Sometimes having another person to contact and talk to can really help. It doesn't have to be at a time of crisis or distress, it can be at a time when people feel overwhelmed, isolated or just having a bad day.
The A-T Counselling Service is part of the support offered by the A-T Society and is primarily a confidential phoneline service, although face to face sessions can be offered if possible. There is also an opportunity to meet with the counsellor by appointment during the Family Weekend. The service started in 1994 and has supported people undergoing change, the challenges of a new diagnosis and many other issues associated with living with A-T in the family.
Helen Hart explains "I feel very privileged to be part of the support that the A-T Society offers. I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, a member of COSCA and am on the UK Register of Counsellors. I have been a counsellor since 1993, have a broad range of qualifications including two diplomas in counselling and I work and supervise with Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland. I supervise counselling students and am an accredited trainer. I am also a parent with personal experience of A-T."
