("A-T Society").

The Society
The A-T Society was established in 1989 and is committed to helping, supporting and advising families affected by A-T particularly at the very difficult time of diagnosis.
Tho objective of the Society is to alleviate the distress and suffering that A-T causes by working to improve quality of life now and in the future. We do this through:
Research
The Society supports research into A-T principally through funding a researcher based at the University of Birmingham, under the direction of Professor Malcolm Taylor who is a world renowned expert in A-T. Where appropriate the Society provides funding to enable UK researchers to attend overseas conferences relevant to A-T.
Support for Families
Amongst other things we:
- Provide information on A-T
- Organise an annual Family Day
- Make grants for equipment such as computers, wheelchairs etc.
- Produce a twice-yearly Newsletter 'A-T News'
- Fund a national A-T Clinic at Nottingham City Hospital
- Have a counsellor - Helen Hart
- Have a family support worker - Kay Atkins
(Helen our counsellor with Kay our family support worker)
Kay's Role is to offer support to families in whatever way she can, for instance advocacy, practical advice on equipment and benefits. Helen offers counselling support by telephone to people with A-T, their families and anybody affected in some way by A-T.
Kay and Helen can be contacted on 01582 760733.
