Flu Advice for people with A-T

Flu Advice for people with A-T

Flu advisory from Dr Liz McDermott (Immunologist at our National A-T clinic in Nottingham):

Flu Advice

‘There is currently an outbreak of influenza type A and type B in England. If your child has not yet had their vaccination we strongly recommend you arrange this as soon as possible. Children with an impaired immune system, such as in A-T, should be treated with anti-viral medication if they develop flu (sore throat, high temperature, aching all over, extreme tiredness). Ideally, treatment should begin within 48 hours. Also, children with significant immune deficiency, who have close household contact with another person with flu, may need to start preventative treatment with anti-viral medicine. Your GP is aware of these recommendations and will be able to advise and prescribe the treatment.’
